Generic Conventions of Romance

In most romance films there is generally a couple that are in love to begin with, then there's an issue that separates them for each other or makes it difficult for them to see each other. Some films may start with two couple not knowing each other or have totally different personalities and backgrounds but something then links them together.

Out of the characters one of them in generally higher in terms of status and therefore wouldn't consider the other, this is what makes the storyline seem less likely and put the odds against the two getting together.

Some examples of films are; Love and Basketball, Titanic or Sex and the city.
